Award of the Loja Bypass Section of the High Speed Train to Consortium of Four Companies

The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has awarded the contract for the construction of the Loja Bypass – A-92 section, which is key in the high-speed rail line between Antequera and Granada, to a consortium of companies comprising Copisa, Copasa, CHM, and Tunelan. Coordinated by the Railway Infrastructure Administrator (Adif), the project covers a distance of 6.3 kilometers and is budgeted at 148.7 million euros, excluding VAT. The construction is expected to last about 30 months.

Copisa, known for its expertise in large-scale projects, will play a crucial role in ensuring that the work is carried out with high standards of quality and sustainability. The design of the section includes technical solutions to meet the challenges of the terrain and protect the natural environment, incorporating tunnels and viaducts for more than half of its length.

The construction will start near the ‘Los Abades’ service area, south of the A-92, and end between Loja and Salar. Notably, the section will feature the Manzanil viaduct, the longest in this segment, stretching 1.7 kilometers with 33 spans. The piers will have an average height of 35 meters, with some reaching up to 65 meters. Two tunnels will be built in the Sierra Gorda: ‘Los Abades’, measuring 615 meters, and ‘Las Monjas’, measuring 693 meters.

Additionally, the project includes the 63-meter Juncar viaduct and a 51-meter overpass. This section is crucial for the 19 kilometers of the Loja Bypass, a strategic part of the Mediterranean Corridor for high-speed rail.

Copisa’s involvement highlights its position as a leader in railway infrastructure in Spain. Work is ongoing on the Loja-Riofrío section, the project for the Loja-Valle del Genil section is approved, and the viaduct over the Bobadilla-Granada line has been completed.
