Advances and Challenges in Equality and Non-Discrimination Highlighted in New Report.

Eurostat has published its statistical report for 2024 on Equality and Non-Discrimination in the European Union, a document that provides a detailed overview of the current conditions of equality on the continent. In an effort to reflect the EU’s ongoing commitment to essential values such as equality, human rights, and the elimination of discrimination, the report highlights the most relevant indicators in this area.

The document presents a series of key statistics covering the entire EU and the countries of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), providing both a regional and national perspective. The five chapters of the report examine the potential inequalities faced by various social groups in different aspects of everyday life. These areas include demographics, health, education, opportunities in the labor market, and living conditions and income.

An important chapter is dedicated to gender-based violence and experiences of discrimination, showing statistics that address different causes of discrimination such as sex, age, disability, citizenship, and country of origin. These data are crucial for identifying disparities and are an invaluable resource for policy development and monitoring.

This data collection is not only intended for policymakers but is also a useful tool for NGOs, researchers, and the general public interested in fostering a dialogue based on equality. The report serves as a reminder of the existing challenges, but also of the progress made on the path towards a more just and inclusive society in Europe.
