More than a hundred representatives from the social, political, and business sectors in Andalusia gathered at the Carmen Thyssen Museum in Malaga to celebrate the XII edition of the Values of Reason Awards, an event that recognizes the charitable work of individuals and institutions committed to a more just and cohesive society. This year, the ceremony, which took place on Tuesday, April 8th, was sponsored by Formación Universitaria, a prestigious academic institution known for its focus on distance education.
The gala was attended by prominent figures, including the Mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, the Minister of Employment, Business and Self-Employment of the Andalusian Government, Rocío Blanco, and the First Vice President of the Provincial Council of Malaga, Cristóbal Ortega. Formación Universitaria’s participation in this event not only emphasizes its institutional support for social causes, but also reflects its corporate philosophy focused on social transformation through education.
Ignacio Campoy, CEO of Formación Universitaria, highlighted the importance of “supporting and making visible organizations that have a real and transformative impact on society.” The institution has implemented a program of solidarity scholarships that collaborates with various NGOs and associations, allowing people in vulnerable situations to access quality education, improving their prospects in the job market.
During the gala, three main awards were presented. The first prize was awarded to “Volunteers in the face of the DANA,” a group from the Polytechnic University of Valencia that mobilized thousands of people to help during the DANA, coordinating everything from material distribution to the accommodation of rescue teams. The second recognition went to “Casa del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús,” known as Cottolengo de Malaga, which has been providing shelter to people in extreme exclusion situations since 1965, supported solely by the work of volunteers and donations, without receiving public subsidies. Meanwhile, “Bancosol,” the Food Bank of the Costa del Sol, received the third award for its dedication in providing food support to nearly 30,000 people in the province for almost three decades, with a special focus on minors and families at risk of exclusion.
Formación Universitaria’s involvement in the Values of Reason Awards reaffirms its commitment to social responsibility and its desire to generate a positive impact in the community, using education as a fundamental tool for change and progress. This commitment resonates with the mission of all those who, in the shadows, work diligently for a more equitable and compassionate future.
