Atos drives the digital transformation of Banco Mercantil in Brazil towards the cloud.

Atos, a renowned company in the field of digital transformation, has been chosen by Banco Mercantil de Brasil to carry out its transition to the cloud through Google Cloud. This five-year agreement includes a multimillion-dollar investment in Brazilian reais aimed at migrating all the bank’s data center servers to the cloud.

The migration will take place in several phases, each tailored to the bank’s various workloads, with the goal of not only modernizing its operations but also optimizing its entire technological infrastructure. Banco Mercantil, which focuses on serving the population over 50 years old, aims to improve efficiency in migration and application implementation, as well as centralize data security, benefiting its more than 8.7 million customers in different regions of Brazil.

On its journey to digital transformation, Banco Mercantil has made significant progress by partnering with Atos to implement the first phase of the cloud migration. This process will go from strategic planning to execution, with a team of experts dedicated solely to the project. The first phase was completed in December 2024, with the successful migration of over 750 machines from an on-premise VMware environment to Google Cloud, using Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE), a leading technology in the market.

The migration is being carried out in stages, and Atos has played a crucial role in designing a plan that ensures the necessary scalability and security, allowing Banco Mercantil to position itself as an institution with a modern and agile technological infrastructure. Fabio Beato, Atos’ Director of Cloud Computing for South America, stated that from the first contact with the bank, the goal has been to align the strategy and planning to improve the bank’s digital maturity and enable it to achieve autonomy on the new cloud platform.

Currently, Banco Mercantil is in the final phase of the project, which includes migrating between 400 and 500 additional machines from its data centers. These phases, anticipated to be more complex and long-term, will benefit from Google Cloud’s scalable infrastructure and continuous support from Atos, whose expertise is essential in this evolution to the cloud.

Both Beato and Ramon Oliveira, Banco Mercantil’s Director of IT, have expressed their satisfaction with the progress made and the commitment of both parties to ensure a safe and efficient transition. Oliveira emphasized that the collaboration with Atos reinforces the bank’s commitment to adopting cutting-edge technologies, ensuring that their transition to the cloud is secure, scalable, and in line with market best practices, always prioritizing value for customers, partners, and employees.
