Celebrating Books to Forge a Bright Future

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has scheduled a series of literary events for December, with the aim of exploring the future of digital rights and technology. These gatherings will feature Cindy Cohn, Executive Director of the EFF, and are intended to link narratives and politics in the pursuit of a fairer world.

The first of these events, titled “We Will Rise Again,” will take place on December 2 at 7:00 PM Pacific Time at The Booksmith in San Francisco. This celebration will mark the release of a new anthology of speculative stories, including contributions from prominent writers such as Cindy Cohn, Annalee Newitz, and Charlie Jane Anders. The collection addresses social justice issues, environmental activism, and community building, offering tools to question the status quo and design a more equitable future.

The second event, “Rewiring Democracy: How AI Will Transform Our Politics, Government, and Citizenship,” will be held virtually on December 3 at 6:00 PM. In this gathering, Cohn will join Bruce Schneier and Nathan E. Sanders to discuss the implications of artificial intelligence on politics and democracy. This dialogue is expected to shed light on how these technologies are transforming government operations and their both positive and negative impact on citizenship.

In addition to these events, in March 2024, the EFF will celebrate the release of the book “Privacy’s Defender,” written by Cohn, which recounts her defense of digital privacy rights over more than three decades. Although details about the launch event at City Lights are not yet confirmed, a year full of commemorations around her work is anticipated.

The EFF invites those interested in these topics to sign up for their newsletter and check their calendar of activities. These gatherings will provide a valuable platform for fostering dialogue about the role of technology in our lives and the rights we need to protect.
