Héctor Manuel Montero Rodríguez, digital transformation specialist and founder of a consultancy with the same name, has warned about the most common mistakes that entrepreneurs often make when approaching the digitization of their businesses. This process, essential to be able to compete in the current economic environment, often generates confusion and frustration, leading to significant losses for thousands of startups in Latin America.
Montero has pointed out that 60% of entrepreneurs in the region fail in their first three years, mainly due to the lack of a clear digital strategy. According to him, many of these failures are predictable and can be avoided with careful planning, as well as basic training in technology.
The expert emphasizes that digitizing a business is not limited to opening profiles on social networks or using popular tools. “It means making strategic decisions that connect technology with the real objectives of the venture,” Montero emphasizes. Through his experience of more than ten years assisting entrepreneurs in Mexico and other Latin American countries, he has identified five critical errors that can jeopardize the growth of any project.
The first is not properly defining the digital purpose of the business, as many entrepreneurs focus on tools without clarity on the reasons for digitizing. Second, using technology without understanding its true usefulness can lead to a waste of time and resources.
Another common mistake is the lack of team training or the absence of professional support. According to Montero, this lack of preparation can result in technical errors and impulsive decisions that compromise the success of the venture. In addition, abandoning the project at the first difficulties is a common mistake, as digitization requires patience and a trial and error approach.
Finally, Montero points out that imitating the models of other companies without considering the specific context is another mistake. Each business is unique and needs solutions adapted to its characteristics, resources, and target audience.
In response to these challenges, Montero proposes a practical model that emphasizes clarity, simplicity, and sustainability in the digitization process. He suggests starting with tools appropriate to the business level, digitizing in stages, analyzing basic metrics to make informed decisions, and combining cost-effective solutions with professional advice.
With these recommendations, Montero seeks to facilitate accessible and effective digital transformation, allowing more entrepreneurs to compete effectively in an increasingly digital market.
