Microsoft has begun the rollout of an innovative update for the Microsoft Copilot application on Windows, which includes improvements and new functionalities. One of the highlights is the ‘Copilot Actions’, a tool that will allow Windows Insiders users to perform tasks directly on local files in a secure and audited environment.
With this new feature, users can describe in their own words the task they want to accomplish. From there, the Copilot agent will execute the action, interacting with desktop and web applications without interfering with the user’s active session. This feature opens the door to multiple possibilities, such as organizing vacation photos, managing downloads, or converting files and extracting information from PDF documents.
However, it is crucial to note that ‘Copilot Actions’ is still an experimental feature, which means it may encounter errors or difficulties when interacting with complex interfaces. Microsoft has encouraged users to monitor the agent’s activities and provide feedback to improve the experience. Additionally, users will always be able to take back control of the task or review the progress of actions taken.
This update, corresponding to version 1.25112.74 and higher, is being gradually distributed through all Insider channels via the Microsoft Store. It is important to mention that not all users will receive the update at the same time, as its implementation will be gradual and users from the EEA will not be included in this phase. Microsoft has decided to start with a limited number of use cases while optimizing the model’s performance.
To access the new functionality, users must select “Take Action” from the composer’s dropdown menu, and optionally attach files or folders for Copilot to start its work. The company also encourages users to provide feedback directly from the Copilot application in order to enrich this tool in the future.
