Discovering the Czech Republic: A Journey Through Its Culture and Heritage

On July 9, 2025, the Czech Republic is set to make history in the field of mobility by announcing the implementation of Level 3 autonomous driving in 2026. This technological advancement will allow vehicles to manage nearly all driving tasks autonomously, sensing and responding to the environment without the constant intervention of the driver. While drivers are expected to relax, letting go of the steering wheel and not needing to use the pedals, they will still need to remain attentive and be ready to intervene if the system fails.

The Czech government’s decision means that drivers with vehicles that have approved Level 3 systems will be able to legally operate these functions, as long as they follow the specific conditions set by each manufacturer. One of the most talked-about changes is that while the autonomous driving system is active, drivers will be able to engage in non-driving activities, such as using their mobile phones, marking a significant shift in the driving experience.

This advancement has been made possible by amending Law No. 111/1994 on road transport in the country. Additionally, the Czech Republic has begun work on new legislation that will facilitate the introduction of fully autonomous vehicles, corresponding to Level 4 automation. This development not only represents a significant technological leap but also has the potential to radically change the perception of mobility in Czech cities, paving the way for a more innovative and efficient future in transportation.
