Six young talents from the Higher Degree in Culinary Management at GSD IS Buitrago recently shined in a practical test that combined fine dining with teamwork. This event, inspired by culinary competition shows on television, was a crucial assessment involving the creation and presentation of a sophisticated menu before a panel of experts, within the framework of the dual vocational training model of the institution.
The students Luca Colángelo, Ndioga Niang, Alkés Estremera, Pablo Martín, Marta Herrera, and Inmaculada Vázquez presented a series of dishes that showcased both technique and creativity. Among their creations were innovative leek croquettes with cured meat and a complex bacalao al pil pil, demonstrating the integration of theory and practice that characterizes their training in a real-world environment.
Under the direction of Professor José Ouro, the activity emphasized the importance of cooperation and professional performance in a learning environment. Gema Siguero, a jury member, highlighted the relevance of hands-on learning offered by the Dual Vocational Training, noting that this model almost guarantees total job placement for young people.
The jury, composed of prominent figures from the culinary and educational fields, evaluated not only the quality of the dishes but also aspects such as organization and the students’ oral expression skills. Each participant shared their dreams and aspirations: Luca Colángelo hopes to open a restaurant on an island, while Ndioga Niang aims to innovate in his local community.
Inmaculada Vázquez emphasized the importance of learning to work as a team, while Alkés Estremera appreciated the opportunity to professionalize his passion for cooking. The mayor of Buitrago, Javier del Valle, underscored the positive impact the educational institution is having on retaining local talent.
The event concluded with a round of applause and the satisfaction of having successfully navigated an experience that focused not only on technique but also reflected the personal growth of the participants. Isabel Blanco, representative of the School Council of the Community of Madrid, encouraged students to overcome their fear of public speaking, highlighting the pride their creations had evoked in the audience.
