Hospital del Mar Presents Recent Medical Innovations

The Hospital del Mar has announced its participation in an important European project called RaDAR (Rapid Detection and control system for Antimicrobial Resistance), aimed at improving the rapid detection of antibiotic resistance. This initiative is carried out in collaboration with the Reference Laboratory of Catalonia (LRC) and the Consortium for Health and Social Care of Catalonia (CSC), with the main objective of combating nosocomial infections acquired in hospital settings.

The problem of antimicrobial resistance has intensified following the COVID-19 pandemic, and this project seeks to strengthen the response to this growing threat. RaDAR is co-financed by the European Commission through the COSME program and is coordinated by the Catalan Agency for Health Quality and Evaluation (AQuAS).

The project’s focus is on implementing innovative solutions to effectively detect infections caused by resistant microorganisms. To achieve this, the public procurement of these solutions is promoted, which will enable faster diagnosis and more efficient control of the spread of resistant infections.

The research team includes professionals such as Dr. Milagro Montero and Dr. Juan Pablo Horcajada from the Hospital del Mar, as well as other specialists from the LRC. This collaboration establishes a framework of cooperation with various healthcare systems in Europe, allowing for efficient exchange of technologies and practices. In this way, the capacity of healthcare systems to respond to the threat of antimicrobial resistance is reinforced.
