This annual list focuses on academics who have shown notable influence in their respective fields of research. Doctors Jordi Alonso and Joaquim Bellmunt have been chosen again, reaffirming their relevance in the scientific community.
This year, the ranking includes 6,868 researchers from around the world who have demonstrated a significant impact in their areas of study over the past eleven years. The United States tops the list, followed by China and the United Kingdom. In contrast, only about ninety researchers from Spanish institutions have been selected.
Dr. Jordi Alonso, a professor of Public Health at Pompeu Fabra University and leader of the Health Services Research Group, has been recognized in the interdisciplinary research category. Since 2016, he has received nearly 110,000 citations and has contributed to approximately 800 significant studies, establishing himself as one of the most cited researchers in his field.
Dr. Joaquim Bellmunt, who heads the Urological Cancer Research Group and holds a position at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in the United States, has been cited nearly 50,000 times and has participated in around a thousand publications. Bellmunt has been featured in the ranking since 2020, excelling in the field of medical clinical research.
The Highly Cited Researchers list is known for exclusively selecting the top 1% of most cited researchers in each area, a rigorous process that screens out authors who rely on excessive publication or excessive self-citation. This recognition highlights the work and impact of both researchers in advancing scientific knowledge.
