The eleventh edition of the Reto Pelayo Vida has begun with great enthusiasm in Costa Rica, where five brave cancer survivors are preparing for an extreme challenge in a spectacular natural environment featuring jungles, rivers, and volcanoes. This project, focused on highlighting the resilience of women who have faced this illness, once again has Quirónsalud as its Official Medical Provider.
Idoia, originally from La Rioja and selected among the participants, underwent her medical check-up at the Policlínica Gipuzkoa, part of the Quirónsalud group. The evaluation, carried out by Dr. Gonzalo Navarrete, head of the Cardiology department, included a series of tests such as complete blood work, echocardiograms, electrocardiograms, and stress tests. In this context, Dr. Navarrete emphasized the importance of physical exercise in the oncology process, stating that “it allows for achieving proper physical conditioning, which is essential for effectively facing oncology processes and treatments.”
Idoia shared her experience during the visit, highlighting her strong belief in recovery from the very beginning. She expressed that sports have been a constant source of motivation: “Sports, before, during, and after my cancer treatment, have pushed me to keep moving forward.”
The Reto Pelayo Vida has established itself as one of the most important international projects for raising awareness about cancer prevention. It shows how the practice of exercise, both during and after treatment, can lead to positive changes in the lives of women who have overcome the disease. In this edition, Idoia and her companions Eduina, Verónica, Mapi, and Toñi will face a challenging course that will test their physical and mental endurance, reaffirming the idea that after cancer, life goes on, and new goals are possible.
Quirónsalud reaffirms its commitment to women’s health, cancer prevention, and promoting physical activity, adopting a holistic approach that transforms difficult experiences into opportunities to inspire other women. This commitment is also reflected in its participation in various sporting events, highlighting its role as the Official Medical Service in competitions such as the MotoGP World Championship and tournaments in tennis, basketball, and sailing, establishing itself as a benchmark in the field of health and sports.
