Innovative UVa Project Turns Marketing Students into Entrepreneurs

The University of Valladolid has taken a significant step in academic marketing education through an innovative educational project that transforms its students into entrepreneurs. In the context of the subject “Digital Marketing Tools,” part of the Marketing and Market Research degree, students have the unique opportunity to create and manage real brands, gaining unparalleled practical experience.

Led by Itziar Oltra, an influential figure in the field of digital marketing, and Elías Vega, an expert in Big Data and Business Intelligence, the educational program focuses on providing valuable tools for students’ future professional development. Oltra and Vega have developed a curriculum that involves students in the design, development, and promotion of tote bag brands, using Amazon products as a collaboration base.

Throughout the course, students are organized into seven groups, each responsible for developing their brand, allowing them to work in crucial areas such as web design, market segmentation, and digital positioning. This practical approach exposes them to real market challenges, allowing them to strengthen essential skills such as strategic decision-making and handling demanding deadlines.

Professor Elías Vega emphasizes that this experience “not only teaches how to build a brand from scratch, but also exposes students to the pressure of meeting deadlines and making strategic decisions,” preparing them for a real work environment. Itziar Oltra, known for her ability to connect with audiences on social media, focuses her teaching on the development of digital campaigns, helping students create engaging content and measure the impact of their strategies on social platforms.

A clear example of the success of this methodology is the Kott project, a tote bag brand that has stood out for its originality and functional design. Kott has captured attention in the market not only for its products but also for its collaboration with PopTote, another innovative brand emerging from this educational initiative. PopTote launched its collection on November 17, coinciding with International Students’ Day, offering designs inspired by iconic moments in film and television.

This educational strategy of the University of Valladolid is not only shaping future marketing professionals but also positioning it as a benchmark in teaching innovation. The initiative is breaking barriers by connecting academic learning with the real world, preparing students to effectively face professional challenges from their formative years.
