Losing weight is simple, but maintaining weight requires effort: Opinions from Lonvital experts.

The phenomenon of rebound effect in weight loss has become a significant concern for many people, as a staggering 97% of those who try to lose weight end up regaining the weight they had lost, and sometimes even gaining additional pounds. According to the Institute of Health Sciences and Physical Activity, this recurring pattern suggests that traditional weight control methods are ineffective for most.

Obesity is a complex problem that cannot be solely attributed to calorie intake or expenditure. Various factors, such as genetics, hormonal processes, stress, sleep quality, and emotional state, play a crucial role in this condition. However, many conventional approaches overlook this multifactorial nature, treating the problem simplistically.

Christian, CEO of Lonvital.com, a clinic specializing in comprehensive treatments against overweight, has shared his personal experience on this issue. After trying multiple solutions, ranging from restrictive diets to intensive exercise and medications, he realized that he always returned to the same point. “Over time, I understood that there is no single solution because there is no single cause for overweight,” he states.

Common methods have several shortcomings. On one hand, many meal plans are rigid and do not consider the body’s individual needs. Instead of eliminating foods, a deep understanding of what the body truly needs in terms of nutrition should be encouraged. Additionally, exercise, instead of being presented as an obligation, should be naturally integrated into daily life.

Although appetite-regulating medications have gained popularity in recent years, their effectiveness is often temporary. When the treatment is discontinued, the body returns to its previous hormonal levels, leading to a resurgence of hunger and anxiety, thus contributing to the return of lost weight. Therefore, the approach should not be limited to pharmacology, but it is essential to address all factors contributing to overweight.

Supplementation also presents issues. Many people consume products without proper diagnosis, which could be counterproductive. The key is to adopt a comprehensive medical approach that considers adjustments to diet, rest, and physical activity, among other aspects of daily life.

In Spain, over 53% of the adult population is overweight and around 17% already suffers from obesity. This situation highlights the urgent need to rethink traditional approaches to weight management and adopt more holistic and personalized strategies that take into account the complexity of each individual.
