Rural Fiber Consolidates as the Fifth Telecommunications Operator in the Country

The Economic Interest Group (EIG) ‘Rural Fibra’, formed by six regional telecommunications operators, has established itself as the fifth national telephone operator, surpassing one million active mobile lines. In its final phase of becoming a new Network Company (Netco), the consortium guarantees access to FTTH (Fiber To The Home) optical fiber for approximately three million households, representing a market penetration of 14%. This situation positions ‘Rural Fibra’ as an attractive alternative for other companies looking to integrate into its network infrastructure.

José Carlos Oya, spokesperson for EIG ‘Rural Fibra’, has indicated that new operator incorporations will be considered in the next few weeks, with a clear focus on sustainable growth. Projections suggest a growth of over five percent before the end of the year, supported by collaboration between the different companies, strengthening their presence in the market.

The consortium is composed of the operators Vera, Avanza Fibra, 7Play, PTV, Excom, and Localcom. With one million mobile lines and the expectation of offering over 500,000 fiber optic services in their respective influence areas, ‘Rural Fibra’ is optimistic about its ability to compete with the large national telecommunications groups. Oya highlights that each consortium member deeply understands the needs of their clients, as they are owners and managers of their own businesses, giving them a significant advantage in customer service.

Furthermore, Oya emphasizes the importance of optimizing this collaborative model for small local operators, who could benefit from joint experience and more favorable conditions in prices and services. Ultimately, the main goal of this strategy is to ensure that consumers receive real advantages, reaffirming ‘Rural Fibra’s commitment to the well-being of its users and the future of telecommunications in the country.
