Samsung Neo QLED and Lifestyle TVs Achieve ‘EyeCare Circadian’ Certification by VDE

Samsung Electronics has announced that their Neo QLED and Lifestyle televisions have been awarded the EyeCare Circadian certification by the Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker (VDE), a prestigious electrical engineering certification institution in Germany. This recognition highlights the company’s commitment to developing technologies that support natural circadian rhythms, thus promoting the well-being and visual comfort of users.

Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business, emphasized that this certification underscores the company’s dedication to creating products that not only enhance user experience but also prioritize eye comfort and reduce visual fatigue, all while maintaining exceptional image quality. Son also noted that Samsung will continue to innovate to adapt to the changing needs of its users, providing immersive entertainment and sustainable long-term comfort.

The certification covers flagship models from the Neo QLED and Lifestyle lines, including The Frame and The Serif series. To determine if a product is eligible for this recognition, six fundamental criteria are evaluated: eye safety, visual comfort, flicker level, uniformity, color fidelity, and the Circadian Stimulus (CS) index, a framework designed to measure visual comfort and alignment with circadian rhythms.

One of the highlights contributing to this achievement is the EyeComfort mode, which automatically adjusts brightness and color temperature according to the time of day and ambient lighting conditions. By simulating natural light patterns, this mode reduces eye strain during daytime viewing and creates a conducive environment for nighttime rest, in line with the body’s natural rhythms.

This new recognition adds to a series of awards that have been granted to Samsung televisions, underscoring their user-centric products and features. Previously, the Neo QLED series had received the Circadian Rhythm Display certification from VDE, while Lifestyle televisions were verified by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for their ability to reduce visual fatigue. Additionally, the exceptional color accuracy of these televisions has been validated by Pantone.
