Samsung Unveils Smart Refrigerators with Hybrid Cooling Technology at CES 2025

Samsung Electronics unveiled at CES 2025 an innovative range of refrigerators that incorporate Hybrid Cooling technology based on artificial intelligence, designed to revolutionize food preservation in contemporary homes. This system integrates advanced cooling methods with AI, offering an efficient solution in both energy use and the freshness and capacity of appliances.

Jeong Seung Moon, executive vice president of Samsung, emphasized the importance of developing a refrigeration system that optimizes energy efficiency, as refrigerators operate continuously. “We have put a strong emphasis on creating a system that benefits users in energy use,” he said. With this launch, Samsung reinforces its commitment to innovation in appliances and the search for solutions that facilitate life at home.

Hybrid Cooling technology combines a high-efficiency compressor with a Peltier module, a semiconductor that cools by changing temperature produced by electric current. This combination allows the refrigerator to operate in a similar way to a hybrid vehicle, using both cooling systems only when necessary, optimizing interior cooling.

One highlight of this system is its responsiveness to variable cooling demands. For example, when adding many items after a purchase or storing hot foods in warm climates, the refrigerator simultaneously activates the Peltier module and the compressor. Under normal conditions, only the compressor is activated, maximizing efficiency. In addition, artificial intelligence monitors the refrigerator’s status and anticipates temperature changes, adjusting the cooling mode accordingly.

The new AI Inverter compressor, with an optimized design that improves the performance of its rotary components, also contributes to greater energy efficiency. Thanks to its improved inertia, this compressor can operate longer with less energy consumption. Samsung plans to launch a model that will receive the ENERGY STAR “Most Efficient” certification in 2025.

Likewise, Hybrid Cooling technology allows precise temperature control, minimizing internal fluctuations in the refrigerator, even during automatic defrost cycles. This results in greater freshness of ingredients, extending the shelf life of products such as meats and fish in tests conducted.

In terms of capacity, the new refrigerators offer an impressive volume of 900 liters, representing an increase of 25 liters compared to conventional models, all without altering the external dimensions. This increase in space is achieved by replacing traditional heating elements with the Peltier module, allowing for deeper shelves and a 13.8% wider loading area, ideal for storing up to 240 cans of beverages.

With these innovations presented at CES 2025, Samsung is marking a new chapter in the evolution of appliances, merging intelligent technology, energy efficiency, and user-centered design, paving the way for a new era of AI-driven home solutions.
