The Electronic Prescription Agreement of MUFACE Mutualists Starts Operating in the Basque Country on November 25th.

Starting on November 25th, MUFACE mutualists in the Basque Autonomous Community will be able to benefit from the arranged electronic prescription, a significant advancement in pharmaceutical management that will impact 15,352 users. This new system will allow beneficiaries to collect their medications at community pharmacies in Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa, and Álava without the need for paper prescriptions, facilitating traceability and safety in the use of medications.

The presentation of this innovation took place at the Government Delegation in Vitoria, where the government delegate, María Soledad Garmendia, pointed out that the modernization of public services will make health management for mutualists “easier.” In total, the autonomous community has 24,183 mutualists, who can choose between the public or arranged system.

MUFACE’s general director, Myriam Pallarés, emphasized that this expansion of electronic prescriptions will not only improve healthcare service, but also reduce bureaucratic burdens and user travel, promoting a more accessible and efficient system. Likewise, Miguel Ángel Gastelurrutia, president of the Pharmacists’ Council of the Basque Country, highlighted that this advancement is a crucial step towards the universalization of electronic prescriptions, improving access to treatments and increasing safety in their use.

The meeting also involved multiple authorities in the medical and pharmaceutical fields, reflecting the joint effort in implementing this system. Kepa Urigoitia, president of the General Council of Physicians of the Basque Country, emphasized that the arranged electronic prescription represents a significant improvement in terms of safety and traceability, benefiting patient care.

The arrival of this initiative in Euskadi is part of a broader plan expected to complete its deployment throughout Spain by 2026, covering a total of 15 territories and over 586,000 mutualists. This effort towards the increasing digitalization of the healthcare system in Spain aims to offer a more agile and quality service to all involved citizens.
