The Impact of Sports on the Employability of People with Disabilities: Results from the UGR-VivaGym-Adecco Foundation Chair.

Here’s the translation into American English:

The UGR-VivaGym-Adecco Foundation Chair has concluded the third edition of its Research Projects, which focus on the employment inclusion of people with disabilities through sports. Since its inception in 2020, this initiative has demonstrated that sports are a vital tool for improving the employability of this group, promoting their autonomy, confidence, and social skills.

During the event, the connection between the values of sports, such as teamwork, discipline, and resilience, and the skills that companies seek was highlighted. This alignment underscores the potential of these sports disciplines to facilitate integration into the labor market. The event was enriched by the presence of José Javier Martín Cañizares, Employment Delegate of the Junta de Andalucía, alongside María del Mar Ortiz, Director of the Chair, and other representatives of organizations that support inclusion.

One of the most memorable moments was the speech by Paralympic skier Edu Carrera, ambassador of the Adecco Foundation. Carrera shared his personal experience after his accident and, in his talk titled “Learning to Get Up: Disability and Employability,” discussed how sports not only enhance physical abilities but also improve emotional and social health, which are crucial factors for job placement.

This edition included three projects in collaboration with organizations such as the Purísima Concepción Foundation and Granada Football Club. One of the most relevant studies, focused on physical activity in people with intellectual disabilities, revealed that 83% of participants met the WHO’s physical activity recommendations, although low-intensity activities predominated. Another project found that physical activity can increase employability scores, and a study on adapted football coaches demonstrated how their leadership boosts players’ confidence, thereby improving their job prospects.

The Chair reaffirms its commitment to social and labor inclusion, highlighting the positive impact of sports on the lives of people with disabilities and their potential to open new opportunities in the job market.
