The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has officially handed over to the Town Hall of Tirgo, in La Rioja, a three-kilometer stretch of the N-232A road. This transfer comes after an investment of over one million euros aimed at improving the infrastructure for urban integration and pedestrian traffic.
The section in question extends between kilometers 455 and 458, covering an area of approximately 44,245.32 m2. The project included narrower lanes to calm traffic, expanded sidewalks with trees and benches, creating a more pedestrian-friendly environment and increasing active mobility in the area. These improvements were financed through European funds from NextGenerationEU under the Recovery Plan.
The transfer, formalized on July 22nd, does not affect the continuity of the state road network or its functionality, as the section has been classified as an urban road, losing its function in long-distance traffic. Additionally, this change of ownership does not imply any transfer of capital or additional financial responsibilities for the General State Administration.
The Town Hall of Tirgo now assumes full responsibility for the N-232A stretch, including its maintenance, defense, and operation. The transfer was carried out in accordance with Order TMA/1160/2021, which establishes the legal framework for the delivery of urban roads from the state network to municipalities.
This initiative reflects the commitment of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to sustainable mobility and urban integration of road infrastructure, in line with the Urban Agenda and the Recovery Plan.
