In January 2025, a prominent group of Spanish celebrities has committed to the Veganuary initiative, which promotes a plant-based diet during this month. Among the figures who have joined this crusade are Leticia Dolera, Teresa Riott, Carmen Navarro, and Elena Herraiz. The NGO, which has been promoting this challenge for ten years, encourages the population to try a vegan diet, with the aim of contributing to animal protection, health, and the environment.
Leticia Dolera, actress and director, has emphasized the urgency of reducing the consumption of animal products. In a recent statement, she commented: “Trying a plant-based diet in January is a first step to reduce the harmful ecological impact and animal torture that certain industries generate daily.” Dolera is currently promoting her new series ‘Pubertat’, in which she has played an integral role as a writer, director, and actress.
Teresa Riott, known for her role in ‘Valeria’, also supports the cause and has pointed out that “we have the power to transform the world” through changes in our eating habits. Carmen Navarro, on the other hand, agrees that it is vital to improve the lives of animals through these actions.
Elena Herraiz, who gained popularity on the show ‘Cifras y Letras’, reflected on the connection between humans and animals, commenting that the words “animal” and “soul” share the same etymological root. “I choose to respect their breath of life and not eat them,” Herraiz affirmed, thus highlighting her commitment to veganism.
Amanda Romero, director of Veganuary in Spain, has emphasized the importance of having the support of public figures, as their influence can reach millions, inspiring greater collective awareness about sustainability, health, and animal rights.
This year’s edition also features the participation of other personalities such as Clara Lago, Núria Gago, and Dani Rovira, who have shared vegan recipes like Tofu and Shiitake Mushroom Ramen and a Seitan Kebab, respectively.
In addition to the entertainment industry, veganism has caught the attention of athletes like synchronized swimming runner-up Emma García, who has stated that “veganism doesn’t make you weak, but rather empowers you.”
Veganuary has grown significantly worldwide, with recognized ambassadors like Joaquin Phoenix, Billie Eilish, and Paul McCartney, among others. Participation in this campaign is free and anyone interested can join through their website.
