The Network of Friendly Cities in Bizkaia has taken an important step in supporting elderly individuals and those in dependent situations by implementing the Technical Aids Bank (BAT). This innovative service allows citizens to access essential support products for free, such as wheelchairs, adjustable beds, walkers, and hoists, thereby improving their quality of life and promoting their autonomy.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy by local municipalities aimed at fostering active aging, allowing one in four municipalities in the network to integrate the BAT into their resources. The primary goal is to address the daily needs of the elderly population while contributing to the reduction of both physical and social barriers they face.

The Technical Aids Bank not only assists users but also alleviates the burden on their families, promoting a more accessible and inclusive environment. This local commitment aligns with the recommendations of the World Health Organization, which advocates for rights-based care and social well-being in aging policies.

Furthermore, the BAT is distinguished by its sustainable approach, as it promotes the recovery and reuse of donated or unused products.
