GAIA: Evaluation and Development of Training Paths for the ICT Sector

In the context of the evolution of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector in the Basque Country, the ‘Sectorial Analysis and Detection of Training Needs Study’ has been carried out, co-financed by Lanbide-Basque Employment Service. This study aims to identify the essential competencies and skills for organizations in the ICTA sector, in order to offer a comprehensive vision that allows for the effective addressing of market demands.

The analysis has led to the design of a Training Plan that has already begun to be implemented, with more than 15 training actions currently underway. The interaction and collaboration between entities in the sector, government institutions, public societies, and the educational system have been crucial for the success of this initiative, as indicated by GAIA, the cluster that brings together companies in the sector.

With a diagnostic methodology that includes interviews, surveys, and discussion groups, GAIA, along with the consultancy C2B, has managed to map the deficiencies and training opportunities in crucial areas. This approach focuses on two main categories of competencies: technological, including programming, data analysis, and cybersecurity, and transversal, related to personal skills, people management, and project methodologies.

The Training Plan represents a significant step forward for the associated companies, establishing a clear framework for the development of key competencies between 2024 and 2027. This plan not only addresses current needs but also anticipates future demands in an environment that is constantly evolving due to digitization and sustainability. Training actions are offered both in-person and online, ensuring flexibility and accessibility for all participants.

Representatives from GAIA have highlighted that the sector faces significant challenges, such as a shortage of qualified profiles and the need for innovative leadership. Therefore, they consider that training initiatives focused on talent development are a crucial obligation to ensure a dynamic and sustainable sector. In addition to the conducted diagnosis, GAIA is promoting other projects, such as the Digital Talent Hub and the FFW ICTA study, to strengthen digital talent within its ecosystem.
