Eviden, a company within the Atos group specializing in digital technology, has announced the signing of a contract worth 50 million euros with the IT and Electronic Administration Office of Serbia. This agreement marks the beginning of a project that will be a milestone in the Balkan region: the creation of the first national artificial intelligence (AI) factory.
The objective of this factory is to boost Serbia’s technological capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence and promote innovation in critical sectors such as health, transportation, and public administration. The center will be equipped with advanced resources in supercomputing, as well as a platform of excellence in AI, allowing Serbian public institutions, universities, and businesses to tackle current challenges with advanced tools.
Among the main features of the new infrastructure is the BullSequana XH3000 supercomputer, which will offer a power of up to 25 petaflops, equivalent to 25 million trillion operations per second. This powerful equipment, created in France, will be crucial for Serbia to develop and implement innovative uses of AI. In addition, the Eviden BullSequana AI platform will be implemented, facilitating the development of applications and supported by Mistral’s GenAI models.
Dr. Mihailo Jovanovic, Director of the IT and Electronic Administration Office of the Serbian Government, emphasized that this collaboration represents a significant step forward in the country’s digital future and reflects Serbia’s commitment to positioning itself as a leader in the field of AI. Emmanuel Le Roux, Director of Advanced Computing at Eviden, also highlighted that this project will strengthen the strategic cooperation between France and Serbia and underscored the importance of technological sovereignty in the current digital age.
The creation of this artificial intelligence factory will not only act as a driver of innovation and growth in the country, but will also contribute to the training of new talents, ensuring that Serbia has skilled experts to carry out this technological transition. In a context where AI is shaping up to be an essential aspect for the sustainable and competitive development of nations, the Serbian initiative seeks to establish a model that democratizes access to these technologies and promotes their incorporation in various key areas.
