COPADE has made a notable presentation at the REBUILD 2025 edition, an event taking place from April 23 to 25 at IFEMA Madrid, focused on sustainable construction. The organization has unveiled two significant initiatives: “Bosque Innova” and “Forest Innovation in Guatemala”, both aimed at promoting sustainability in the construction sector.
The “Bosque Innova” proposal aims to revitalize the Alto Tajo region in Spain using local and certified wood. This project not only promotes job creation in the region but also addresses the issue of depopulation by improving the quality of life of the inhabitants of the so-called “Empty Spain”. Through this initiative, the goal is to valorize forest resources, particularly pine wood, incentivizing the creation of companies that operate under responsible wood usage practices.
Simultaneously, the “Forest Innovation in Guatemala” initiative focuses on strengthening the community forest model in the Maya Biosphere Reserve. This proposal includes the implementation of a digital traceability system that allows identifying the origin of the wood, ensuring its sustainability and compliance with current European regulations. Additionally, training is provided to local communities to help them comply with these regulations.
This year, over 27,000 industry professionals have gathered at REBUILD 2025 to discuss the future of construction, addressing topics such as industrialization and responsible use of forest resources. Close to 700 international experts have participated in discussions on innovative and sustainable construction models, where COPADE has played an active role, highlighting the importance of initiatives like “Bosque Innova” and “Forest Innovation in Guatemala”.
Javier Fernández, founder and director of COPADE, has emphasized the importance of cooperation with other entities to evolve towards more balanced construction models that respond to current environmental challenges. During the congress, Fernández took part in a roundtable with Iñaki Alonso, CEO of sAtt Triple Balance, where they discussed “Construction and design in fair and sustainable wood”. During this discussion, the Pirita project was presented, promoting energy efficiency in construction through the use of renewable materials.
COPADE’s initiatives reflect a strong commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility in the construction sector, solidifying its role as a leader in promoting responsible forest management practices.
