Fer and Envalora Strengthen Their Agreement to Promote Traceability and Circularity of Packaging Waste

Here’s the translated text in American English:

ENVALORA and the Spanish Federation of Recovery and Recycling (FER) have signed a Framework Collaboration Agreement aimed at enhancing traceability, quality, and circularity in the management of industrial and commercial packaging waste. This initiative is part of the new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulated by Royal Decree 1055/2022.

The agreement focuses on respecting existing management models, allowing waste holders to continue working with their usual managers, always under criteria of quality and regulatory compliance. ENVALORA, recognized as the only Authorized Collective System of Extended Producer Responsibility for single-use and reusable industrial and commercial packaging, has begun implementing various operational models aimed at optimizing waste management.

FER, which has over 320 direct members and represents more than 500 waste management companies, plays a fundamental role in promoting the circular economy in Spain. Both organizations have agreed on clear commitments, including promoting traceability and proper classification of waste, encouraging selective collection and recycling, as well as creating a Waste Managers Committee for ENVALORA. This committee will work alongside FER to improve procedures and identify optimization opportunities in the recycling chain.

Isabel Goyena, General Director of ENVALORA, highlighted that this collaboration will strengthen the implementation of operational models that comply with the EPR for packaging and promote the circular economy. For her part, Alicia García-Franco, General Director of FER, expressed that this agreement will facilitate members’ adoption of new operational models while respecting previous management practices and closing the lifecycle of packaging.

Both entities are committed to advancing towards a more efficient and sustainable waste management model, benefiting both the environment and the circular economy.
