Ibero-America Honors Miguel de la Quadra-Salcedo at the ‘Thank You, Miguel’ Congress

Here’s the translation into American English:

Guadalupe, Madrid, and Toledo are preparing to host the First International Congress ‘Thank You, Miguel’ from September 19 to 22. This event will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Navigating Classroom and the cultural and educational legacy of Miguel de la Quadra-Salcedo. This significant commemoration will culminate in an audience at the Palace of Zarzuela, with His Majesty King Felipe VI in attendance.

More than 700 former explorers from renowned projects such as Amazonas, Aventura 92, and Ruta Quetzal will attend the congress, which will feature participants from 50 countries, both in-person and online. The event aims to analyze the impact of this project, declared of Cultural Interest by UNESCO, promoting the slogan “Thank You, Miguel.” Attendees will share and discuss experiences that have transformed lives over generations, fostering a network focused on leadership, cooperation, and values-based education.

The Pontifical University of Comillas supports the initiative through a collaboration agreement with the Miguel de la Quadra-Salcedo-Real Virtual Society of Scientific Explorers, which seeks to promote training, research, and scientific dissemination, with a particular emphasis on sustainability and intercultural dialogue in the Ibero-American context. Among the highlighted activities is the establishment of a scientific committee that will bring together explorers and international experts to evaluate the impact of educational experiences over time.

The congress will begin with a lecture by Carmen Iglesias, Director of the Royal Academy of History, at Casa de América and will include the participation of various prominent figures from the Ibero-American sphere. Activities will then move to the Royal Monastery of Guadalupe, where a tribute to de la Quadra-Salcedo will take place. During the event, the Miguel de la Quadra-Salcedo Awards will also be presented, honoring the legacy of the distinguished explorer and educator.

Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy “The Dream of Toledo,” a show at Puy du Fou España that connects history and culture between America and Spain. The congress will conclude with a floral tribute at a statue dedicated to Miguel de la Quadra-Salcedo at the Complutense University of Madrid, a symbol of his humanistic legacy.

This event is sponsored by the Extremadura and Castilla-La Mancha governments, along with support from financial entities that have facilitated the participation of over 10,000 young people over the years. Registration to attend, both in-person and online, will be open until September 12.
