Alcampo and Ocado Solutions have inaugurated their new Customer Fulfillment Center (CFC) in San Fernando de Henares, Madrid, marking a milestone in the development of online commerce in Spain. This innovative warehouse, which combines advanced technology and automation, is capable of processing up to 280,000 orders monthly, all made through Alcampo’s digital platform. With an investment of 19.4 million euros, the initiative aims to consolidate Alcampo as a leader in the digital food market in the country.
The center employs more than 300 workers and features cutting-edge technology provided by Ocado, including Automated Frameload (AFL) and On-Grid Robotic Pick (OGRP), systems that use artificial intelligence and computer vision to optimize each stage of the logistical process. These systems not only improve efficiency in handling goods, but also monitor their entire journey from arrival at the warehouse to dispatch in one of the 100 hybrid and electric trucks.
Within the CFC, more than 25,000 product references are managed, ranging from fast-moving consumer goods to fresh foods, thanks to Salvesen Logística’s management. The “hive,” a central structure in the warehouse, houses around 1,000 robots that operate quickly to expedite the picking of products.
Orders are distributed by the 100 trucks that make deliveries within one-hour time slots, starting at 7 in the morning and ending at 10 at night, initially focusing on the Community of Madrid with plans to expand to other regions. This initiative is part of Alcampo’s commitment, established in 2021, to enhance the online shopping experience and lead the phygital food commerce sector.
Gregor Ulitzka, President of Ocado Solutions for Europe, mentioned that the collaboration with Alcampo creates an innovative, flexible, and unique shopping experience nationwide. Américo Ribeiro, General Director of Alcampo, highlighted that the alliance with Ocado positions the company in a privileged position to lead the sector, thus fulfilling the promise of offering exceptional service.
This launch represents a significant advancement for e-commerce in Spain, placing Alcampo and Ocado at the forefront of the sector through the integration of cutting-edge technologies and a strategy focused on customer proximity.
