Amonita Villa: Conscious Architecture in Lanzarote with APE Grupo Ceramics.

A new architectural gem is being added to the volcanic landscape of Lanzarote: Villa Amonita, a project designed by the Czech studio OOOOX, which has recently been awarded in the second edition of the APE Grupo Architecture Awards. This residence stands out not only for its innovative design, but also for its respect and harmony with the natural environment, emulating the philosophy of the renowned artist and architect Cesar Manrique, who advocated for architecture that reflected the beauty of the landscape.

Located on an island where environmental conservation is a priority, Villa Amonita presents a significant challenge that the Czech architects have overcome with a focus on sustainability and cultural integration. Before starting the design, the OOOOX team spent a year meticulously studying the area, analyzing its geomorphological characteristics, architectural identity, and relationship with the surrounding nature. Radka Valová, the architect in charge of the project, highlights: “We have tried to make the most of everything local, both for sustainability and respect for the landscape.”

The residence rises as an extension of the volcanic landscape, with lava stone walls establishing a visual dialogue between the construction and its surroundings. Villa Amonita uses traditional colors and local materials, such as volcanic stone, emphasizing a style that recalls the works of Manrique. This aesthetic choice highlights the unique character of Lanzarote, creating a visual and emotional connection with the surrounding landscape.

Ceramics play a fundamental role in this project, especially in wet areas such as bathrooms, where small format pieces in green tones have been incorporated. This detail not only brings vitality to the spaces, but also connects with the artistic heritage of Manrique, a master in the fusion of architecture and nature.

In addition to its sustainable design, the renovation of Villa Amonita includes an optimization of spaces. Common areas have been reduced to create more bedrooms, promoting a seamless connection between the interior and exterior. The terrace, equipped with a barbecue kitchen, a dining area, and a pool, invites you to enjoy the island’s mild climate and encourages an outdoor lifestyle.

Open courtyards and terraces are key elements that connect the home to the landscape, allowing natural light and the beauty of the outdoors to influence the daily experience of its inhabitants. Radka Valová emphasizes the importance of doing work that respects the integrity of the environment, ensuring that each design decision contributes to the sustainability and harmony of the landscape.

Villa Amonita not only stands as a standout example of contemporary architecture, but also symbolizes the commitment to preserving and celebrating the unique nature of Lanzarote. Its design not only seeks to maintain the essence of the island, but also invites future residents and visitors to experience and appreciate the cultural and natural heritage that Manrique passionately defended.
