Announced the EBC Conference Program 2024

The program for the European Bioplastics Conference 2024 has been unveiled, promising to be a crucial event for the discussion and exploration of the latest developments in the bioplastics sector. Scheduled to take place in Berlin, as well as digitally, on December 10 and 11, 2024, this conference is considered the most important in the European context, bringing together industry leaders, innovators, and experts.

The conference will kick off with an opening speech by Kristin Schreiber, Director of the Directorate General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW) at the European Commission, discussing the political factors impacting the sector. Theodora Nikolakopoulou will provide insights on biodegradable polymers in the context of the EU Regulation on fertilizing products. Additionally, Rhodes Yepsen will discuss the need to update compostability policies and regulations in light of the Global Plastics Treaty.

In the afternoon, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the latest market figures and observe regional trends in the Middle East and India, thanks to a presentation by Marc Verbruggen, CEO of Emirates Biotech. The first day will conclude with an exhibition on innovative applications of bio-based plastics, led by René Bethmann from VAUDE Sport.

The second day of the conference will feature presentations from prominent figures such as Miriam Weber, CEO of Hydra, who will discuss the environmental effects of microplastics and biodegradable polymers. Patrizia Pfohl from BASF will present research on biodegradable films, and Christian Bonten will explore the use of biobased plastics in technical applications.

The event will also offer two free activities. The first, on December 9, will be a session dedicated to recycling methodologies and technologies, organized in collaboration with EU-funded projects. On December 12, the culmination of the “PRESERVE: The Bio-based Packaging Revolution” project will take place.

Hasso von Pogrell, Managing Director of European Bioplastics, has highlighted the conference as an invaluable platform for moving towards a circular economy, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and cooperation fostered by EBC24. The meeting is supported by renowned sponsors in the sector such as BASF, Emirates Biotech, and NatureWorks, among others.
