Today, Windows Insiders have received a new update. It is the “Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.4010 (KB5041869)”, available in the Beta channel. This new version offers a series of improvements and fixes that aim to further optimize the user experience with Windows 11.
A new option has been included that allows users in the Beta channel to activate a switch to receive the latest updates and features immediately, through “Settings” > “Windows Update”. This option promises gradual implementations of new features for those who activate it. If the switch is turned off, new features will be rolled out slowly once they are ready.
Among the most notable changes are improvements to the taskbar and system tray. The implementation of a more streamlined system tray, which had been temporarily disabled, is now available again. Additionally, a setting is introduced that allows users to decide whether they want to see jump lists when hovering over applications in the taskbar.
As for fixes, a recent issue causing another instance of the application to open instead of the expected menu when pressing Shift and right-clicking on an application icon in the taskbar has been resolved. A problem related to the task manager and dark mode has also been fixed.
However, there are still known issues that need attention. For example, work is being done to resolve an error causing explorer.exe to crash when closing applications from the taskbar. There are also issues in File Explorer where keyboard focus can be lost and in emoji input, where the panel closes when attempting to switch sections or select an emoji.
The announcement also mentions an update for Paint (version 11.2406.36.0 and higher) that introduces support for using the back button of the stylus as an eraser and selecting with the side button of the stylus while scrolling on the screen.
Developers remind Beta channel users that updates are based on the 23H2 version of Windows 11, and that features and experiences in development may not be publicly released.
Copilot on Windows is also being gradually rolled out to Windows Insiders worldwide, and users in the European Economic Area will soon be able to download this experience from the Microsoft Store.
