Annual Savings of 20,000 Tons of CO2 Thanks to STO’s ETICS in Spain

Sto Ibérica, the Spanish subsidiary of the German multinational company specializing in construction systems, is celebrating its 20th anniversary as a leader in sustainable building and energy efficiency. Since its inception in 2004, Sto has installed more than 2 million square meters of External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems (ETICS), significantly reducing carbon emissions in Spain.

The latest company data shows that Sto’s insulation systems enable an annual savings of 20,000 tons of CO2 in buildings heated with diesel and 13,680 tons in those using gas. These results underline the company’s importance in the context of global CO2 emissions, especially considering that the construction sector is responsible for about 40% of these emissions worldwide.

José Almagro, the Managing Director of Sto Ibérica, has highlighted the need to modernize Spain’s aging real estate market, which is one of the oldest in Europe. Almagro emphasized that constant innovation and a strong commitment to sustainability are essential for building a more environmentally conscious and respectful future.

Over its 20 years in Spain, Sto Ibérica has been involved in more than 1000 architectural projects, providing products ranging from thermal and acoustic insulation systems to ventilated facade solutions. Recent projects include the Interpretive Center Angra do Heroísmo in the Azores Islands and several initiatives in Madrid.

The company’s growth over the past five years has made Spain one of its most promising markets. To keep this momentum, Sto continues to invest in innovation through its R&D department, which employs over 160 people worldwide. This year, the company plans to move forward with its StoTherm system by introducing solutions that incorporate renewable materials and solar energy technologies.

One of Sto’s latest innovations is StoSignature, a new type of render that allows a wide variety of customized designs for unique facades. Almagro highlighted that Sto’s capacity to innovate not only benefits its current clients but also helps mitigate the environmental impact of the construction industry, reaffirming its commitment to leading the market for the coming decades.
