Artificial Intelligence: A Hype Without Real Revolution in the Technological Job Market?

Despite the growing adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in multiple sectors, the job market for IT profiles in Spain has not experienced a significant revolution, according to the latest annual report from iwantic, a recruitment agency specializing in Digital and Technological Profiles.

In recent years, the narrative surrounding AI has captured the imagination of companies and professionals alike, with promises of a total transformation in the way of working. However, data shows that this “revolution” has been more of an “evolution” and rhetoric than a wave that was going to change everything. While it is true that IT professionals with AI skills tend to see a slight increase in their salary, the wage difference is less than expected. Although iwantic does receive many requests for these types of profiles from clients. On average, the salaries for these profiles barely exceed those of other technological professionals by 5-7%, a modest figure considering the hype around AI.

The study reveals that the highest paid technological profiles in 2024 are not AI specialists, but Cloud Architects and Cybersecurity Architects. These roles have seen significant salary increases, in some cases exceeding 100,000 euros annually. The high demand for these profiles, driven by the increasing complexity of cloud infrastructures and the rise of cyber threats, has solidified their position as the kings of the IT job market.

“AI has not yet revolutionized the job market as many predicted,” commented iwantic. “The professionals who can design and protect cloud infrastructures are the real winners in the current digital economy. It is a reminder that, although emerging technologies are important, a solid foundation of infrastructures remains key to success.”

Looking ahead, while AI will continue to be an area of growth, the report suggests that its impact on the job market will be more evolutionary than revolutionary. Companies should be cautious about overestimating the importance of AI at the expense of other critical fields such as cybersecurity and cloud infrastructure management, which remain vital for sustainability and long-term growth.

iwantic is a leading agency in the recruitment of specialized personnel in digital and technological profiles in Spain. Working for the main companies in the Ibex 35, they help companies from all sectors identify and attract the talent they need to drive their digital transformation.
