Attendance Record at The Battery Show Europe: Over 20,000 Participants and a 23% Increase.

Stuttgart, the nerve center of the automotive industry in Europe, hosted a larger number of attendees, showcasing globally recognized decisions and innovations in electric vehicles (EVs), battery technology, and supply chain.

The Battery Show Europe and Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology Expo Europe, the leading European event on batteries and electric and hybrid vehicle technology, welcomed more than 20,000 attendees during the three days of the event at the Stuttgart Trade Fair in Germany, from June 18 to 20, 2024. Among the main exhibitors were companies such as Siemens, Parker, Lyric Germany, Keyence, Atlas Copco, ScanTech, and ThermoFisher Scientific.

In addition to top-tier exhibitors, the event featured product exhibitions that allowed attendees to delve into new technologies and learn firsthand about the latest innovations. Another highlight of the fair was the Open Tech Forum, which hosted over 20 presentations on battery production, development and quality control, and predictive battery analysis, expanding educational opportunities.

“The electric vehicle market continues to evolve in Europe, and the region is constantly introducing new regulations to support its growth,” says John Lewinski, Vice President of Informa Markets Engineering. “As a global leader in automotive, EV, and energy storage, hosting The Battery Show in Stuttgart is crucial to support the intersection of the European and global markets. This year’s event brought together the top innovators in the automotive industry to discover new technologies driving global impact.”

“We are transitioning from being teachers to becoming students,” notes Bloomberg’s Sebastian Wolf, COO of Volkswagen’s PowerCo battery unit and speaker at The Battery Show Europe. “We all need to focus on being faster and more profitable.”

Battery Show Europe highlights the continued growth of the European battery and electric vehicle markets, valued at $250 billion, a topic discussed during a panel titled Battery Regulation and Battery Passport: Efficient Policies for a Competitive European Automotive Sector. With ongoing expansion, the German government has recently developed battery passports that function as digital identification technology that can be used to track battery minerals and materials along their supply chains. This new technology was highlighted by Systemiq, a company working to integrate Battery Passports throughout the EU.

The passports will also provide lifelong access to carbon emissions, recycled materials, etc., to promote greater transparency from manufacturers and align with the mandate for electric vehicles sold in the European Union from 2027 to show battery composition, including the origin of key materials, carbon footprint, and volume of recycled content.

In addition to the increased focus on battery passports, a new theme at the fair, “Exploring BESS Technology,” focused on stationary energy storage systems (ESS), as it is a rapidly growing sector for the industry. This technology, which allows energy to be stored and converted into electricity when needed, can be used for both grid and mobility needs. Considered a form of renewable energy, ESS can also be used for sustainability initiatives.

The Battery Show Europe returns to Stuttgart in 2025, from June 3 to 5. The Battery Show North America will take place from October 7 to 10, 2024, in a new location with significant growth in Detroit, Michigan, at the Huntington Place.
