Canary Islands authorities praise Dr. De La Peña’s ‘Guide to Living Healthy for 120 Years’.

In an emotional ceremony held at the Paraninfo of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, renowned doctor Manuel de la Peña presented his latest work, “Guide to Living Healthy for 120 Years,” receiving a standing ovation from authorities and attendees. The presentation brought together distinguished personalities, such as the Rector of the University, Lluis Serra; the Mayor of the city, Carolina Darias; and the Health Counselor of the Government of the Canary Islands, Esther Monzón. Also present were figures such as the Vice-Rector of Culture, José Miguel Álamo, and the former Health Counselor, José Manuel Baltar.

Doctor De la Peña’s guide has captured attention for its innovative approach to a healthy and humanized lifestyle, the result of years of research on longevity. During the event, Carolina Darias emphasized the relevance of green spaces in cities to promote physical activity and longevity of their inhabitants. She also mentioned Las Palmas’ aspiration to become one of the so-called Blue Zones, known for the high quality of life and longevity of its residents, thanks to its pedestrian infrastructure and sustainable mobility policies.

Esther Monzón praised the humanistic approach of the work, highlighting the importance of personal relationships and community support for lasting health. She also pointed out that the Person-Centered Healthcare Strategy, promoted by the Canarian Health Service, reinforces this humanization paradigm.

During the ceremony, homage was paid to the Hernández-Pérez family, recognized as the longest-lived family in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records. This family, who follows the recommendations proposed in the guide, such as a quiet life and a diet based on farm products, represents a living example of longevity.

Through his guide, Dr. De la Peña seeks to transform the perception of aging, suggesting the use of the term “long-lived person” instead of “elderly.” He also emphasized the importance of the Mediterranean diet, music, and daily exercise as fundamental pillars for a long and healthy life.

Recognized for his contributions in cardiology, De la Peña places his trust in advances in artificial intelligence to tackle aging. With innovative tools like AlphaFold 3, it is expected to discover molecules capable of eliminating aged cells, promoting a longer and healthier life. The work, which promises to be a bestseller, emerges as essential reading for those interested in living an extensive and disease-free life.
