Erhai Forum 2024: Towards Building a Global Ecological Civilization in Geneva

The Erhai Forum (Europe) on building a global ecological civilization was held on Tuesday in Geneva. The event was organized by the Foreign Languages Press Administration of China, the Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations Office in Geneva, and other international organizations in Switzerland, along with the Government Information Office of Yunnan Province. This forum was co-sponsored by the International Communication Development Center of the Foreign Languages Press Administration of China and the People’s Government of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture. It also received support from the Swiss-Chinese Association, the Swiss-Chinese Business Council (SCCC), and the Eurasian Economic Forum.

The central theme of the forum was “Strengthening lake management and jointly building a beautiful world,” marking the first time it has been held abroad. Crucial topics discussed at the meeting included sharing experiences in water treatment for Erhai Lake in China and Lake Geneva in Europe. The main goal was to promote knowledge exchange in ecological environmental management, particularly in lake administration between China and Europe.

The forum also aimed to foster mutual learning and exchange of ecological civilizations between both continents, with the purpose of building a professional and regional platform to drive the construction of a global ecological civilization. Additionally, it sought to deepen the green partnership between China and Europe, towards a more sustainable and environmentally respectful future.

During the event, organizers presented a thematic exhibition of Dali titled “There is a kind of life called Yunnan,” providing attendees with a glimpse of the ecological and cultural experiences of this Chinese region.

Finally, organizers provided contact information and a URL for more information on the forum and its future initiatives. This gathering in Geneva represents a significant step in international cooperation for building a more ecological and sustainable world.
