Samsung Electronics has today announced the Galaxy XR, an innovative device that kickstarts a new category of AI-native products focused on providing immersive experiences. This model is the first based on the new Android XR platform, developed in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm Technologies, and represents a significant step toward a future where discovery, gaming, and work experiences are seamlessly integrated.
Won-Joon Choi, Chief Operating Officer of Samsung’s Mobile Experience Division, emphasized that the Galaxy XR is part of a mobile device ecosystem that brings artificial intelligence to new dimensions. “It enables extended reality (XR) to transition from being just a concept to a part of everyday life,” stated Choi.
In this context, Sameer Samat, President of the Android Ecosystem at Google, highlighted that Android XR is the first Android platform designed for the Gemini era, underscoring the new opportunities this launch presents for exploration, connection, and creation. Alex Katouzian from Qualcomm Technologies added that the Galaxy XR will transform personal computing possibilities, enabling new use cases across various industries.
The Galaxy XR is designed to fully harness the potential of multimodal AI, with a particular emphasis on how users interact with technology in their daily lives. This device is not just a tool but an AI companion that assists in task management through natural interactions using voice, vision, and gestures. Its ability to understand the user’s environment provides a more human and conversational experience.
The collaboration between Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm has enabled the creation of a scalable ecosystem that expands XR possibilities. The device is compatible with all applications developed on the Android platform, ensuring that users can enjoy their usual mobile apps without any issues.
The design of the Galaxy XR prioritizes comfort, featuring characteristics that distribute pressure and reduce facial discomfort. Additionally, it includes a detachable light shield that allows users to fully immerse themselves in the experience by blocking out external light.
This new device allows users to discover unique interactive dimensions, offering optimized experiences in applications like Google Maps and YouTube. Its key capabilities include immersive navigation, content search, and the conversion of photos and videos into 3D format, enriching both learning and entertainment.
Equipped with a powerful Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor, the Galaxy XR promises advanced visual clarity and performance. Its battery life lasts up to 2.5 hours of video playback and offers next-generation connectivity capabilities, positioning it as a useful tool for both enthusiasts and business applications, such as virtual training.
The Galaxy XR will be available starting October 21 in the United States and October 22 in Korea. Samsung is also working on developing various form factors, including AI glasses, in collaboration with style and technology brands, which will expand XR applications in everyday life.
