Agrifood Comunicación has initiated a series of professional meetings called ‘Agrifood Talks’ to commemorate its 15th anniversary. The first event, which took place at the Meeting Point Madrid, focused on the evolution of food in Spain since 2010, and was well-received, bringing together experts in the field of nutrition and food.
Ricardo Migueláñez, CEO of Agrifood Comunicación, opened the day by acknowledging the support received over the years and emphasizing that these meetings aim to be a space for exchanging ideas, as well as reinforcing the reputation of the food sector. This year’s motto, “Building networks. Bringing people together,” reflects the company’s philosophy, focused on collaboration and connection among the various players in the food chain.
The event, titled ‘Evolution of food in Spanish society in the last 15 years,’ featured Dr. Javier Aranceta, president of the Spanish Society of Community Nutrition, and Dr. Gregorio Varela, professor of Nutrition and Food Science. Both specialists shared valuable insights on the transformation of eating habits in Spain and the impact of nutrition on the quality of life of the population.
Dr. Aranceta addressed the growing concern about obesity in the country, noting a decrease in the consumption of essential foods in the Mediterranean diet. He explained that the search for more affordable alternatives and lack of time are negatively impacting the quality of food. “To spend less time in the doctor’s office, we must spend more time in the kitchen,” he asserted, advocating for a change in mentality towards meal preparation.
Dr. Varela discussed emerging trends in food, emphasizing the importance of scientific research in understanding consumer needs. He stressed that it is not just about the type of food consumed, but also about how meals are shared, highlighting the need to reintroduce moments of family consumption to improve both nutritional quality and social values related to food.
The day ended with a lively round of questions and an open debate that brought together representatives from various sectors linked to food production and marketing, as well as members of the public administration, who exchanged opinions on the challenges and opportunities facing the future of the sector.
Through ‘Agrifood Talks,’ Agrifood Comunicación aims to leave a digital legacy that provides access to accurate information about food and its production, reaffirming its commitment to the food sector and creating a permanent dialogue space to address the challenges of an industry in constant evolution.
