Fruits and Vegetables: The Big Absentees in Spanish Diet

The lack of time, a lack of understanding about nutrition, and the perception that healthy eating is expensive are some of the obstacles that Spaniards face in maintaining a balanced diet. In this context, the brand Juice Plus+ has introduced its new product, Superfood Powder, a dietary supplement made from 30 fruits, berries, and vegetables, enriched with vitamins and plant-based phytonutrients. This product is specifically aimed at those who struggle to meet the recommended daily intake of five portions of fruits and vegetables.

According to the National Survey of Dietary Intake in Spain (ENIDE), between 70% and 80% of Spaniards do not meet this recommendation set by the World Health Organization. However, many of them believe they are consuming enough portions. Paula Sáiz de Bustamante, a pharmacist specialized in nutrition and a collaborator with Juice Plus+, points out that the dietary records presented in consultations often differ significantly from what people report. “Many consider a serving of fruit when they have barely consumed four strawberries,” she explains.

Sáiz de Bustamante also emphasizes that living in a country with a rich culinary tradition like Spain can provide a false sense of security regarding one’s diet. Although the Mediterranean style is followed, many do not stop to check if they are meeting the necessary quantities, which can lead to deficits in essential nutrients like fiber, folic acid, and vitamin D.

Among the factors complicating access to a healthy diet are the lack of planning in shopping and recipes, as well as limited knowledge about the long-term impact of food on health. The misconception that a healthy diet costs more than opting for fast food also persists.

In light of this challenge, experts from Juice Plus+ advocate for the importance of proper nutritional education, viewing it as fundamental to promoting healthy eating habits from childhood. Superfood Powder is presented as an option that addresses nutritional deficiencies without undermining the importance of fresh foods.

This new supplement adapts to various needs and lifestyles, being useful for both athletes and older adults or teenagers who tend to reject certain foods. Its liquid format makes it an appealing option for those who find it difficult to consume vegetables and fruits.

The significance of these supplements lies not only in improving physical nutrition but also in potentially having a positive impact on mental performance. Recent studies suggest that their consumption may optimize cognitive functions such as memory and attention.

Therefore, specialists emphasize that having concentrated formulas can be an ally for those who lead a fast-paced lifestyle and struggle to consume the adequate amount of vegetables. In this context, promoting more conscious eating habits becomes essential for improving public health as a whole.
