Gerónimo Rauch has taken on the iconic role of Jean Valjean in the renowned musical “Les Misérables: The Arena Spectacular World Tour.” The tour, which kicks off in Tokyo, celebrates the 40th anniversary of the production and marks a significant milestone, as Rauch becomes the first Hispanic artist to portray Valjean and also the Phantom of the Opera, in both English and Spanish. This achievement highlights his prestige in the realm of musical theater internationally.
The decision of acclaimed producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh to cast Rauch for this iconic role reflects the artist’s importance in the current theatrical landscape. His connection to “Les Misérables” dates back to his childhood when he was captivated by the 10th-anniversary concert on a VHS, which planted the dream of being part of the cast. His first contact with the production was as Feuilly in Argentina, while he made his professional debut as Jean Valjean in the Spanish version of the play in 2010, later participating in significant commemorative events.
Throughout his career, Rauch has explored various formats, contributing to his artistic growth, which is now reflected in this innovative interpretation of “Les Misérables.” His selection as the only Spanish-speaking artist in this prestigious production is a testament to his exceptional ability to embody one of theater’s most iconic characters.
Before embarking on this exciting tour, Rauch is also starring in “Cinema All In” in Buenos Aires, an original production that fuses musical theater with narrative elements from film, paying homage to Hollywood’s Golden Age with a cast of 25 artists.
Expressing his enthusiasm for returning to this iconic role, Rauch said, “Thinking about playing this role again fills my heart with happiness, gratitude, and immense joy.” This new chapter emphasizes his dedication to the art and his connection to his roots, further solidifying his legacy as one of the greatest Valjeans in the world while showcasing his versatility as an artist.
