The ducal village of Pastrana, recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain, is getting ready to host the 44th edition of the Apicultural Fair, an international event that has been taking place continuously since 1981. This fair, a pioneer in the field of beekeeping in the country, will take place from March 14 to 16 and is presented as a celebration of honey, a product known for its outstanding health properties, especially the honey from La Alcarria, which attendees can learn about, taste, and purchase.
Organized by the Provincial Council of Guadalajara, the City Council of Pastrana, the Castilla-La Mancha Regional Government, the APAG, and the Guadalajara Beekeepers Association, the Apicultural Fair stands as a symbol of the beekeeping culture in the La Alcarria region. This region, which includes parts of Guadalajara and Cuenca, stands out for the production of quality honey with Protected Designation of Origin since 1992.
La Alcarria honey is famous for its exceptional taste, stemming from the native flora that includes plants such as rosemary, lavender, and thyme. Its predominant varieties, rosemary honey and lavender honey, make it a highly valued product, rich in antioxidants and antibacterial properties. This aromatic and gustatory richness is attributed to the climate, altitude, and abundance of aromatic vegetation in the region.
This year, the fair will be held at the San Francisco Convent, hosting 45 exhibitors, including not only prominent honey producers but also companies offering related products such as honey ice cream, sweets, oils, waxes, wines, thematic jewelry, and cosmetics. The diversity of the offerings promises to be one of the main attractions of this edition.
Attendees will be able to participate in honey tastings and enjoy a showcooking by the renowned chef Carlos Gumiel. In addition to these activities, multiple workshops have been prepared for all ages, including the making of candles and propolis, as well as historical recreations in the Ducal Palace. The fair will also serve as a meeting place for industry professionals, who will have access to machinery, clothing, and a series of presentations aimed at developing their businesses in the field of beekeeping.
During the event presentation in Madrid, Daniel Cano, Tourism Councilor of the City Council of Pastrana, highlighted the importance of the fair in promoting the local economy and its commitment to sustainability. Cano invited the Madrid public to discover Pastrana, a destination that combines history and beauty and that has recently been declared a Tourist Municipality by the Castilla-La Mancha Government.
Arantxa Pérez, Tourism Delegate of the Provincial Council, emphasized the fundamental role of the Apicultural Fair as a pillar of the primary sector of the province, combining tourism and beekeeping in a celebration that enhances both areas.
The 44th edition of the Apicultural Fair promises to be not only a showcase of the world of honey, but also an invitation to rediscover Pastrana and the cultural richness of La Alcarria.
