October 29, 2024 marked a significant day for medical oncology in Spain, with the official delivery of scholarships promoted by the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM) during its annual congress held in Madrid. This year, the event stood out for having awarded a record of 61 scholarships, with a total funding of close to 1.3 million euros. This increase in aid reflects SEOM’s commitment to promoting research and training in the field of oncology.
Two prominent physician-researchers from Hospital del Mar, Dr. Jenniffer Linares and Dr. Joana Vidal, have been recognized among the beneficiaries of these scholarships. Dr. Vidal, who works as a medical assistant in the Medical Oncology Service, was awarded one of the prizes stipulated by the SEOM Foundation for doctoral theses aimed at promising young researchers. This recognition validates her efforts to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in oncology.
Meanwhile, Dr. Linares, a member of the research group in Precision Medicine for colorectal cancer, received honors in two different categories: a scholarship for doctoral theses and a scholarship for research projects, the latter in collaboration with SWISS RE. Her project, titled “Clinical Impact of Factors Secreted by CAFs in patients with metastatic RAS wild-type colorectal cancer treated within the CR-SEQUENCE Clinical Trial,” highlights her innovative approach and expertise in oncology research.
The central mission of SEOM is to promote both clinical and translational research in oncology, as well as to encourage training in centers of excellence and the building of a knowledge network that brings together oncologists from across the country. All award-winning projects have been rigorously evaluated by the Carlos III Health Institute, ensuring their relevance and potential impact on the sector.
This recognition of doctors Linares and Vidal not only highlights their individual achievements but also consolidates Hospital del Mar as a key pillar in the fight against cancer in Spain, reaffirming its position as a pioneering institution in the field of oncology and medical research.
