Installation of an exterior roller shutter – step by step
In theory, the installation of a roller shutter on a roof window should be done by a professional, preferably a roofer. However, anyone with basic knowledge of window installation can also handle the job. What tools do I need for the installation? In addition to the kit of parts supplied by the manufacturer, you will need a drill/screwdriver, tape measure, pencil, cutter, and pliers.
You can install the roller shutter without removing the window sash, but this step will make your job much easier.
These are the following steps to install an exterior shutter on a roof window:
Step 1: Remove the pins that connect the shutter to the mounting profile to remove the profiles.
Step 2: Make sure the window diffuser does not interfere with the installation of the roller shutter. If necessary, unscrew it, trim it, and reinstall it.
Step 3: Match the location of the holes with the window closure block.
Step 4: Match the mounting profiles with the window hood; in some cases (low hood, wide gutter) additional shims may be necessary. Regardless of the design at this step, apply the sealant according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Step 5: Screw the mounting profile assembly to the window hood.
