ICDL Certification: A Pillar of Digital Competence in Higher Education

Here’s the translation to American English:

The University of Alcalá has launched an innovative international training program as part of the EUGLOH University Alliance, providing a free certification to enrich the education of students from various European institutions. This course, scheduled to take place from July 7 to 11 in Alcalá de Henares, combines distance learning with a week of on-site activities, focusing on the development of digital and informational skills.

Students enrolled in this program will not only receive accreditation for completing the course “Digital and Informational Skills,” but they will also have the opportunity to earn ICDL certifications in different modules. These certifications cover areas such as “Cybersecurity,” “Data Analysis,” “Data Protection,” and “Artificial Intelligence,” and they are internationally recognized, awarded by the university’s ICDL center.

The call for applications has been well-received, with 30 students selected from over 130 applicants from universities in Norway, Sweden, Portugal, Hungary, Germany, and France. The collaboration with the Universidade do Porto and Université Paris-Saclay in developing the course adds an additional international profile. Due to high demand, a second edition is planned for 2026.

The ICDL certification is recognized as the oldest in this field, with over 20 years of history and presence in a wide range of countries across Europe, as well as in America, Asia, and Africa. To date, more than 17 million people have obtained one of these certifications. The ICDL catalog not only includes basic digital skills but also introduces modules on emerging technologies such as cloud computing, the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and big data. In Spain, exams are available in both Spanish and English and can be taken remotely using an automated system based on practical tasks.
