Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Health: Alliance between Pfizer Foundation and Wayra at the University of Seville.

A group of Health Sciences students from the University of Seville participated in the event “Foro InnovaU: opening doors to the future”, promoted by the Pfizer Foundation, Wayra, Telefónica’s venture capital, and the Telefónica Chair “Intelligence on the net”. This meeting focused on stimulating entrepreneurial spirit and technological innovation within the health sector.

The forum was opened by María Álvarez de Sotomayor, dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, along with Sergio Rodríguez, president of the Pfizer Foundation, and Carlos León de Mora, professor and director of the Higher Polytechnic School. During the day, students attended a workshop led by Inés Oliveira, Head of Customer Success at Wayra, where topics such as open innovation and the different agents that make up the entrepreneurial ecosystem were addressed. Practical aspects were also discussed about the differences between incubators and accelerators, as well as the stages that startups go through.

In addition, a panel discussion was held that brought together prominent representatives from the entrepreneurial field, such as Macarena González from Axon Partners Group, Oscar Ansótegui co-founder of Aeris, Alejandro Suero from Healthinn, and Cayetana García Borbujo from Wayra. This debate focused on the challenges of developing technological solutions in health, the role of investors, the future of artificial intelligence, and the social impact of emerging innovations.

Concha Serrano, trustee of the Pfizer Foundation, took the opportunity to highlight the job opportunities that Health Sciences graduates can find in sectors such as hospitals, research, and the pharmaceutical industry. Sergio Rodríguez emphasized the importance of events like this, which provide students with a broad vision of their possible career paths and the role of entrepreneurship in improving people’s quality of life.

Agustín Moro, director of Innovation Services at Wayra, highlighted the support of the Pfizer Foundation and the Telefónica Chairs Network as crucial factors for the implementation of disruptive technologies, especially in the field of sustainable innovation. Dean Álvarez de Sotomayor concluded by emphasizing that this event offers students the opportunity to explore entrepreneurship and new technological possibilities to address health problems in a multidisciplinary environment. The InnovaU event has previously been held at the Polytechnic Universities of Valencia and Salamanca, receiving an excellent reception among the educational community.
