The International Ham Institute (Interham) has reached a milestone in its history by officially presenting its project to Ana Rodríguez Castaño, Secretary General of Agricultural Resources and Food Safety at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food. This new entity aims to consolidate the image and reputation of ham at an international level and establish a structure that will allow the World Ham Congress (CMJ) to be held every two years.
During the meeting, Interham also launched its new website, an essential resource for professionals, researchers, and ham enthusiasts. The platform provides access to industry news, resources on production and consumption, as well as a section dedicated to the CMJ. Users will be able to consult a repository with all the presentations from previous editions since 2001, facilitating access to valuable studies and documents generated at these events.
Ana Rodríguez Castaño emphasized the importance of the Institute as a fundamental tool to support the ham sector, noting that its creation will contribute to the training of all links in the production chain. This will improve the competitiveness and sustainability of the various operators in this industry.
Interham’s President, Julio Tapiador, highlighted the relevance of this initiative to increase global knowledge about ham, emphasizing the crucial role the institution will play in consolidating the World Ham Congress and promoting the exchange of experiences among the different actors in the production chain.
Interham has designed multiple activities to boost the sector, such as the “Ham Tapas Week,” which aims to promote the gastronomic culture of ham in various locations. Furthermore, the first awards to the sector are anticipated, honoring the most outstanding entities and professionals. A scientific poster contest for the XIII World Ham Congress is also planned, inviting researchers to share their contributions to knowledge about this emblematic gastronomic product.
This project will be complemented by a monthly newsletter, which will strengthen communication among sector players, promoting continuous dialogue about ham and its various aspects. Supported by leading sector associations, Interham aims to become a benchmark in the defense and promotion of the characteristics and qualities of ham, as well as in collaboration with administrations to improve the reputation of this gastronomic value.
