Jesús del Ser, a renowned company with over forty years of experience in the wood sector, has recently completed a large-scale project for the historic Quintanar Palace in Segovia. This majestic Renaissance building from the 16th century, located in a city declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has undergone several restorations over the years, with the most recent one involving the exclusive participation of Jesús del Ser.
The main challenge of the project was the renovation of the floors in the two main rooms of the palace, which had issues of wear and unevenness. Nuria del Ser, the company’s manager, emphasized the importance of the detailed study carried out to find the most suitable solutions that would not only restore, but also enhance the historical value of the surroundings.
To carry out this intervention, a thorough analysis of the intended use of the rooms, which are meant to host exhibitions, was performed. Based on this analysis, two types of noble woods were chosen: old Melis pine and wenge. The Melis pine, known for its warmth and elegant appearance, was combined with wenge, recognized for its dark color and distinctive grain, thus adding a touch of sophistication to the space.
Adapting to the irregular characteristics of the rooms was one of the major challenges of the project. To address this, a central 42-centimeter spline was employed, not only allowing for a better spatial distribution, but also creating an impression of greater spaciousness and visual coherence. Additionally, the varnish applied in each room was chosen considering the natural light conditions and artificial lighting, giving a unique personality to each of the spaces.
Thanks to this intervention, the rooms of Quintanar Palace have not only regained their functionality, but have also acquired a new aesthetic value that complements their historical richness. “This project has been a unique opportunity to showcase our ability to create tailored solutions while respecting the history and architecture of such an emblematic building as Quintanar Palace,” said Nuria del Ser.
Quintanar Palace, which has been carefully restored to preserve its original structure over the years, has become a cultural center dedicated to visual arts and exhibitions since 2011. This transformation has allowed for the fusion of its historical heritage with contemporary creativity, reaffirming its cultural relevance in the region.
