The renowned company Keter, dedicated to home solutions, and Tetra Pak, a global leader in the packaging sector, have announced the launch of an innovative line of sustainable plant pots. These pots are made with up to 98% recycled polyethylene and aluminum, materials obtained from beverage cartons. The initiative, called “Plant the Future,” is designed to promote the circular economy by converting discarded products into high-quality raw materials.
Currently, these plant pots are available in stores in Spain and Portugal, such as Leroy Merlín, Bauhaus, and Costco, and come in six different models. The expectation is to expand the collection soon to offer more options to consumers. With this product line, Keter and Tetra Pak aim to reduce plastic waste, decrease dependence on limited natural resources, and cut carbon emissions generated during the manufacturing process.
A highlight of the project is the use of Polyal, a recycled material that allows the creation of pots of varying sizes with a lower environmental impact. For example, a large Wood Planter pot reuses the equivalent of 329 recycled containers, while smaller versions use approximately 75 containers. These numbers underscore the importance of proper recycling by consumers in yellow bins.
The sustainability commitment shown by this project has been recognized with the RSA Sustainability Award 2024, granted by the Aragonese Institute of Development to Keter. Additionally, the organization “Solar Impulse” has classified the project as a “Distinguished Solution” for its innovation in environmental protection, emission reduction, and resource optimization.
María Jesús Esteve, Keter Southern Europe’s general manager, emphasized that the company’s goal is to offer products that are not only functional and aesthetically pleasing but also drive positive change. According to Esteve, by choosing these plant pots, consumers become active agents in the circular economy and environmental protection.
On the other hand, Virginia Rodríguez, sustainability manager at Tetra Pak Iberia, highlighted the importance of collaboration between companies to keep recycled materials in circulation. Rodríguez maintains that initiatives like this demonstrate that cooperation between different sectors can generate sustainable and innovative solutions for the future.
