Kómoda News has inaugurated the first edition of the Empiria Awards, a new distinction focused on highlighting scientific dissemination in health and lifestyles in Spain. These awards, supported by the National Association of Health Informers (ANIS), aim to recognize initiatives that promote rigorous knowledge and challenge misinformation in these essential fields.
The creation of the Empiria Awards arises from the growing need for reliable information, especially in a time when misinformation can have harmful consequences for public health. According to Paula Carrera, a member of the editorial committee of Kómoda News, it is essential to give visibility and recognition to the work of those who strive to make science more accessible. “We are living in a moment where rigorous information is more necessary than ever,” she declared.
The awards are classified into three categories: best scientific dissemination project, best initiative in defense of science, and a Special Jury Award. The latter will distinguish a person, institution, or entity with an outstanding track record in promoting scientific knowledge. The jury will be composed of experts in dissemination, scientific communication, health, and nutrition, including a representative from the ANIS Board of Directors and members of Kómoda News.
The term “Empiria” refers to knowledge acquired through experience and evidence, aligning with Kómoda News’ mission to promote quality scientific dissemination. This platform, active since 2021, advocates for sustainability and accuracy in communication, emphasizing the importance of combating misinformation related to health.
The period for submitting nominations will be open until May 30, and interested parties can do so through a form available on the official Kómoda News website, where the contest rules are also found. The jury’s decision will be announced on June 30, while the awards ceremony is scheduled for October, promising to become a relevant event in the field of scientific dissemination in Spain.
