Llanes: Cardio-Protected Municipality with Seven AEDs Accessible 24 Hours

The Llanes City Council has taken a significant step toward improving public health by installing seven state-of-the-art semi-automatic defibrillators that will be available 24 hours a day. Provided by the company Almas Industries, these devices have been strategically distributed throughout the municipality, with special attention given to the summer season when the population can double, reaching up to 100,000 residents.

Of the seven defibrillators, five have been placed in easily accessible cases marked at key locations. These sites include the Llanes City Hall, the Municipal Sports Center “José Andrés Cabrero Junco ‘Chili'”, the Civic Center of Posada de Llanes, the Nueva de Llanes Sports Center, and the Municipal Golf Course. The other two defibrillators are installed in the patrol vehicles of the Local Police and Civil Protection, ensuring rapid response to any emergency.

The mayor of Llanes, Enrique Riestra, emphasized the importance of this initiative in a municipality with a fluctuating population during the summer. “We believe that the safety and health of our visitors and residents must be guaranteed. With this measure, we are taking another step toward a heart-safe city, where every minute counts to save a life,” he stated.

These defibrillators are suitable for both adults and children, with a simple button switch, and come equipped with a device that assists in performing chest compressions correctly. Eulalia Cano, delegate of Almas Industries in Asturias, expressed her satisfaction in collaborating with the City Council on this important initiative, stressing that rapid response can make a difference in cases of cardiac arrest.

To raise awareness about heart protection, the City Council has scheduled a training session open to the community on the use of defibrillators and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), which will take place next Tuesday, August 5, at the municipal sports center.

With this valuable action, Llanes joins the growing trend of municipalities implementing heart protection measures as part of their public health and safety policies, thus contributing to creating a safer environment for its citizens and visitors. The installation of these defibrillators is a significant step toward prevention, providing a vital second chance in emergency situations.
